Job Summary
Rio Grande Pacific Transit Group is seeking an individual interested in a transportation career as a DMU Conductor in Lewisville, Texas. The DMU Conductor provides passenger train service in compliance with federal regulations and company policies, maintains alertness and situational awareness, communicates effectively, follows en-route instructions, supports passengers, and reports deficiencies, malfunctions, and safety concerns.
Responsibilities
• Support safe and efficient operation of a passenger train.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety and operating rules and federal regulations.
• Interact with passengers and make clear on-board announcements.
• Promote safe work practices and maintain a safe work environment.
• Provide services for passengers needing assistance.
• Perform tasks related to the emergency preparedness plan.
• Verify purchase of fares and coordinate with local law enforcement as needed.
• Receive and comply with en-route instructions from the Dispatch Center.
• Report deficiencies and safety concerns encountered on the rail corridor to the proper authority.
• Report mechanical malfunctions and coordinate with the mechanical department to correct equipment issues.
• Prepare reports as required.
• Maintain regular, predictable attendance and punctuality.
• Follow instructions from the General Manager, supervisors, and other company officers.
Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Qualified passenger train conductor preferred.
• Preference given to individuals trained by an equivalent passenger railroad who are currently certified as conductors.
• Ability to achieve and maintain Conductor Certification under 49 CFR 242 and GCOR qualifications.
• Must meet physical requirements to maintain conductor certification and perform safety-sensitive duties.
• Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Work experience demonstrating alertness, awareness, vigilance, and clear verbal communication.
• Satisfactory attendance and safe work record.
• Prior railroad operating experience and adaptability to variable work hours preferred.
• Required to take actions and make decisions affecting the security and wellbeing of others.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and perform light to medium work.
• Must be able to reach, handle, grasp, feel, stoop, bend, kneel, balance, and climb.
• Must be able to stand for a large portion of the day and walk short distances over uneven terrain.
• Must demonstrate auditory and visual acuity and meet FRA hearing and vision requirements, including color vision.
